Fly Business-Class Between New York and Paris at Economy Prices

La Compagnie, the French boutique airline, is offering discount transatlantic flights between New York’s Newark Airport and Paris’ Charles De Gaulle for business travelers. This means seating for 74 passengers, free Wi-Fi and seats that recline 180-degrees. The airline is even offering meals created by Michelin-starred French chef Christophe Langree.

Ins

pite of all these amenities, the main attraction of the flight is the price. A round-trip ticket costs around $1,500, which is competitive with a number of economy-class fares on other airlines.

The downside to this deal is the schedule is somewhat inflexible. Since La Compagnie currently only has one plane, a Boeing 757, there are just two flights a day, from Paris to New York and then back again. There are also days when the airline doesn’t operate any flights at all. However, the airline says it expects to add a second pla ne in December.

Previous all-business-class airlines suffered from low passenger adoption rates thanks to poor loyalty and partner integration. However, co-founder and deputy CEO Peter Luethi remarks:

“In the all business airline world, the only model which worked was the one implemented at L’Avion. This was during a period roughly eight years ago, when the market was quite different, and the differentiation between the different similar airlines was not given. Today’s market has turned very prosperous based on certain consolidations within the airline industry. While many business classes have been upgraded, so have the prices. The model of La Compagnie is a combination of cost-based pricing and a business class which prides itself on comfort, efficiency and a smaller aircraft which provides more privacy for the clients.”

Competition in the premium class area is a welcome sight, and the products and prices that La Compagnie bring to the table will inspire others to innovate.
