With an inexhaustible supply of blue skies in summer and snow capped rooftops in the winter, Stockholm, Sweden’s capital is breathtaking. The scene is peppered with buildings of terracotta and saffron walls that dot the night with glimmering inviting lights.
Basically, you can appreciate the beauty of nature from every angle of Stockholm as there are thousands of rocky islands that surround it. At the Katarinahissen, you will be treated to a striking view of the cliffs. Dine at Eriks Gondolen bar and restaurant if you’re not afraid of heights. Appreciate historic and heritage sites such as the Riksdagshuset and the Liljevalchs Konsthall. The Riksdagshuset is the parliament building of Sweden where you can see works of art by Otte Skold, Axel Torneman and the tapesty woven by Elisabet Hasselberg Olsson called Memory of a Landscape. The Liljevalchs Konsthall is a great example of neo-classical architecture where you’ll be greeted at the entrance by Carl Milles statues before viewing exhibitions of modern art. Open at this location in February to the middle of March is the Vasalongen Art Show too.
A 1923 picture palace, the Biografen Skandia is Stockholm’s version of the Mann’s Chinese Theater of LA. The Biografen Skandia features a deep blue colored ceiling and a Pompeian rotunda in the lobby. The Stockholm Public Library is also part of Sweden’s beautiful architecture. It has been beautifully preserved and remains a masterpiece designed by Erik Gunnar Asplund in 1924, and is accented with endless shelves of books and artwork by artists like Nils Dardel and Ivar Johnson. The cathedral of Strokyrkan which is 700- years old was once a place for royal wedding ceremonies and coronations, and a beautiful site to visit.
