In the central east of France, between Marseille and Paris, lies a beautiful city named Lyon. The proud residents are called Lyonnais. Lyon is a major business center that holds the title Gastronomy Capital of France. It is known as the silk capital of the world in the annals of history and home to huge internationally famous organizations such as the International Agency for Research on Cancer and Interpol. It is also a city in France best known for its leaders in wine growing. The most common local wine that you should taste while travelling Lyon is the Beaujolais wine popular for its uniquely sweet taste.

With the city's great number of attractions, it has been one of the country's most popular tourist destinations. Varied attractions include monuments, churches, gardens, parks, ancient ruins, and museums. Its cathedral and churches attract tourists for its exceptional architectural designs and styles, both ancient and modern. Some of the most frequently visited churches are the St. Just Church, Saint Bruno Church, Notre Dame de Fourviere, and St. Bonaventure Church among many others. But ten most famous churches in the city is Saint Francis of Sales Church because of its large and well-preserved pipe organ called the Cavaille-Coll.

Other places of great interests are Lyon opera houses, Tony Garnier Hall, Cour de Voraces, La Bourse, Old Court Law and the Vienne Roman Theatre while its most famous monument is the Cathédrale St-Jean that had been built during the medieval times. You will surely find the city's parks enchanting as well where you can relax and watch the day go by. Parks in Lyon have beautiful fountains. Some major parks in the city are The Garden of La Bonne Maison, Parilly Park and Cerisaie Park. Local restaurants are scattered all over the city called the Bouchons and this is a great way for you to find out really why Lyon is Gastronomy Capital of France. Lyon receives the most number of tourists from around the world during its Festival of Light that happens annually on the 8th of December. The festival is the Lyonnais' eternal gratitude to Virgin Mary for saving them from the deadly plague that took millions of lives during the Middle Ages.

Climate: Lyon experiences a temperate climate all year round, meaning that the weather is very unpredictable in this city. It rains anytime of the year in whatever season so you should always come prepared with you umbrella when you tour the whole metro. But temperatures are pleasant all year round. Summer happens from June to September and the hottest summer's days can be felt from between June and September. Autumn months have the best weathers but rains heavily and frequently during this season. Winter is mild and snowfalls are very seldom.

Transportation: Lyon has two major railways stations – the Lyon Perrache and the Lyon Part-Dieu. Its public transit system includes buses, trams and trains.
