Among traditional foods in Berlin are cucumbers and potatoes which the late Frederick the Great (king of Purssia) had ordered his people to eat because they were cheap. Today they are still favorites among its people. Cuisines such as currywurst, Pfannkuchen, and eisbein are served in pubs that are open both day and night, while practicing no official closing times. The influence of the Turkish immigrant workers have also brought their culinary traditions to the city with one of its well liked dishes, the doner kebab, becoming a fast food staple. Climate: Berlin climate is sunny summers with cold, bitter and damp winters. In the winter snow and frost are experienced and temperatures can fall to below freezing. Rain is experienced year round, with the wettest months are June and August, with the driest months being October and February. Transportation: Berlin offers public transportation including buses, double decker buses, trains, the S-Balin Stadbahn, which is somewhat of a light rail and takes the occupants between Aoologischer Garten and Alexanderplatz, taxis, site seeing buses, shuttles, cars and motorbikes. |
