Hotels Around the World Say “No Boys Allowed!”

There’s a rising trend in some of the top hotels for business travel around the world. It’s one that may be a little counterintuitive to the ears of this generation’s sleek, powerful, independent businesswomen. However, it’s an opportunity to this specific demographic that, many believe, is more than worth having a listen. The idea? Hotels with entire floors dedicated to the female guest. The concept is that the specified floors, or floor, would only be accessible with a key card -which is something that only the female guest would be able to obtain. These floors would be restricted to any male guests. This concept, while surprising to some, has two main, and very important, benefits; first, increased safety. This is the most obvious, and the most valuable reason that these segregated floors are a great idea. Additionally, this kind of specialized floor allows for amazing customization, luxury, and targeted amenities. Both of these, along with a list of some of the best hotels utilizing this idea, and how they’re doing so, is listed below for you.

Increased Safety:

Almost half of the business travelers up in the air today are female. In a world created, and until now, completely dominated by men, women are becoming a bigger and bigger. Travel for leisure, as well, has seen growth in their female demographic. More and more young people, especially women, have decided to make travel a priority even if that means going it alone, which many young women are doing these days. It’s an untapped demographic to some extent, and as such, people in the tourism world, namely hotels, are starting to take notice and cater to this demographic. One of these big issues for this demographic is safety; and as sad as it is to say, violence toward females, especially those traveling alone, is still a major concern and women are often targeted more often than men. So having a space where women can come home and feel truly safe is so important. It’s valuable to have the comfort of not having to worry about answering the door to room service in your robe because the man working on staff that night might linger at the door to long and make you uncomfortable. Many of the hotels using this model have utilized employing women only staffs on these floors, so it’s truly a welcoming and safe space for women.

Specialized amenities:

Hotels are generally laid out to be utilitarian spaces; something for everybody. While this is an easy, and probably the best, way to please the most of your guests narrowing the demographic always allows for more specialization which almost always equals happier guests and more loyal guests. This is also true for the women enjoying stays in the women only floors of hotels around the world. These hotels are able to focus more on the specific needs of women which provide an environment that is less “bland” and more filled with beauty, warm colors, and amenities such as specialized hangars for women’s wear such as skirts and dresses, as well as high powered blow dryers so  you don’t have to a) bring your own or b) try and get by with the dinky ones you typically find in hotels. While these might seem trivial, it’s the little things that make an experience memorable, and something worth repeating.
