Accommodation Transportation — 11 October 2010

Next month, the cruise ship claiming title as the world’s largest will launch, offering passengers a chance to get on board by July 2011. Operated by Royal Caribbean, the ship, known as the Allure of the Seas is 1,181 feet long and can carry up to 5,600 passengers at a time.

On board, the Allure of the Seas, which overtakes its sister ship, Oasis of the Seas (pictured above), as record-holder for the world’s largest cruise ship, takes “floating hotel” to the next level with a multitude of on board activities, attractions and entertainment venues. “Floating Vegas” might be more like it.

On board the Allure of the Seas, passengers are met with 16 decks of cruising goodness that house 2,700 rooms and 28 luxury loft suites. But the rooms aren’t the most exciting element of this ship by miles. The ship is designed with eight distinct neighborhoods, including the “Boardwalk” complete with carousel, a meandering park, and the world’s only open air amphitheater at sea.

If that’s not enough, the ship also has a zip line suspended from the 9th deck and a number of themed swimming areas, as well as a 1,380-seat theater that shows the broadway musical Chicago every night. There are also 20 different restaurants on board, and 25 different shops, just to round out the decadent experience.

The Allure of the Seas has been under construction in Finland and will take her maiden voyage this November. In July 2011, she will carry her first passengers on a Caribbean route, which will include docks in the Bahamas, St. Thomas and St. Maarten, making berth in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

A 9-night cruise, including airfare from London and all onboard food and fees, will cost £2,048 ($3,200) per adult.
