Save Money with City Passes in Prague, Paris & London

Some people are more hardcore sightseers than others. There is the breed of traveler that wants to take in all they can before they have to go home, and there is the type that prefers to take it easy, seeing only one or two main sights.

London PassParis Pass

Depending on what type of traveler you are, using a City Pass might really benefit you and save you some money. The City Passes, which are available in London, Paris and now, Prague, offer free and discounted admission to many of the city’s attractions by simply purchasing the one tourist pass. Depending on how many sights you plan to see and what their regular admission prices are, the City Passes are quite often cheaper than purchasing individual admission. Furthermore, you don’t have to stand in line, which can be a real drag on a day of sightseeing.

Take, for example, the new Prague Card. I did the calculations and discovered that, if you were to use the card to visit eight of Prague’s most important attractions (like Prague Castle, the National Museum and Old Town Hall), you would have paid for the card, which costs 890 Kč (€36).

Prague City Card

With the Paris Pass, you only have to visit seven attractions (like the Arc De Triomphe, the Louvre and the Palace of Versailles) to offset the cost of the pass, which is €97 for a two-day card. The same applies to London with the London Pass, which costs £55 (€66) for a 2-day card.

Obviously, these passes are not for everyone. Those that just couldn’t be bothered seeing enough sights to pay for the pass certainly shouldn’t bother buying one, and people going for quick weekend city breaks might not have the time or energy to get to enough attractions to make the pass worthwhile.

But hardcore sightseers who plan to stay in the city long enough to plan their sightseeing around the pass can save quite a bit of money by using one.
