The island nation of Grenada, not to be confused with the city in Spain, is a gorgeous West Indies destination located several hundred miles off the coast of Venezuela. Though not well known to a lot of tourists to the Caribbean, most of whom generally opt to visit the more well-trodden spots, Grenada is a truly unique country, colonized by both Britain and Spain at various times during its history.
Because it is more remote than other places in the Caribbean, it is a wonderful place to experience authentic island life. Grenada is actually composed of three islands: Grenada, Carriacou and Petit Martinique, and the capital city, St. Georges, is located on the largest of the three, Grenada. The islands’ climate are more or less tropical and, because of the plethora of nutmeg, vanilla, clove, ginger and cinnamon that grow there, Grenada has come to be known as the “Spice Isle”.
