When going on holidays, few things seem more daunting than choosing accommodations. For many people, the choice of hotel can make or break the entire vacation, while for others, a simple bed in a dorm room is sufficient. The fact of the matter is, choosing the right hotel for you is a simple art. Keeping a few basic steps in mind, you can easily find the right accommodation that perfectly matches your travel style.
Step 1: Know your budget. Every traveler should have a budget in mind before starting the process of planning a trip. Don’t worry about whether you have thousands of dollars to spend or are on a tight spending limit, you’ll be able to find accommodations to match your price range.
Step 2: Know your style. Are hotels important to you or do you approach your accommodation as simply a place to sleep? Do you love basking in the sunshine at a posh poolside bar or enjoying views from your luxury tower, or do you prefer a laid back spot where you can get to know other people?
Step 3: Match your style to the right accommodation. If you need the little luxuries and love the feeling of staying somewhere fancy, you’ll want to book into a high end hotel and sacrifice other aspects of your travel budget for your hotel room. If you couldn’t care less where you sleep, as long as there is a pillow, then opt for a budget hotel or even a hostel where you can save tons of money by sleeping in a dorm accommodation. If you fall somewhere between the two, a clean mid-range hotel with a few amenities will probably suit you best.
Step 4: Understand the city you’re visiting. Look at a map or consult a travel guide book to get a feel for the layout of the city you’ll be traveling to. Where are the main sites? Are you going there for some particular reason or just for holidays? Do you love to shop or prefer to spend time at the beach? You’ll need to take all of these factors into consideration when you begin choosing a hotel. For instance, moderately priced hotels can often be found on the edges of cities, so you sacrifice some centrality for a better price.
Step 4: Begin your search for the perfect hotel. This is the hard part. Armed with your list of what you want and don’t want, including budget, style and area of the city, you can begin to search. Guidebook listings can be a good place to start, but you’ll probably want to consult a website offering hotel booking, preferably one with a map so that you can pinpoint exactly where your hotel is located in relation to the parts of the city that you want to be closest to.
Step 5: Book! That’s it. Although it takes a little time, you should have no trouble coming up with the perfect hotel for your next vacation.
