Are you a Gamer? Anime freak? Science nerd? Just because you wear a pocket protector, doesn’t mean you can’t travel. Let’s face it – though quietly, the nerds probably outnumber the cool kids on this earth, and every culture and country around the world has its own version of a dweeb. So, why not get out of mom’s basement and meet some other intelligent-minded folk like yourself? Here are a few places that only true geeks will enjoy.

Dragon*Con – Atlanta, GA

Gamers and geeks unite in the veritable orgy of nerdy madness. From the opening parade, which features numerous costumed characters, fantasy workshops, lectures by industry insiders and celebrity geeks – Dragon*Con is enough to make any true dweeb go nuts. Dragon*Con is held every year in Atlanta, GA.

Akihabara, Tokyo

For people into electronics or animé, the Akihabara neighborhood of Tokyo is like Mecca. The maze-like markets and multi-story shops in this massive district house everything from raw electrical pieces to customizable gadgets, computers and the newest technological inventions. Fans of Japanese animation (animé) and manga comics can literally get lost among the hundreds of graphic novel shops in the district, too.

Gothenburg Science Festival, Sweden

Held every spring in Gothenburg, Sweden, the Gothenburg Science Festival is like a geeked-out high school science fair for grown-ups. For a week, the city of Gothenburg turns into one big science fair, playing host to lectures, exhibits and experiments about everything from basic chemistry to the cutting edge of scientific research.

Einstein Museum, Bern, Switzerland

Learn all about Albert Einstein’s life and work at the Bern History Museum in Switzerland, where he was living when he came up with his famous E=MC2 forumla. Though not the only Einstein exhibition in the world, this one boasts some of the genius’ personal things, notes from his work and interactive exhibitions that explain some of his theories. And if you’re a real geek, you might also want to check out Einstein’s house, located not far away.

Geek Cruise

These days, there are themed cruises that cater to just about every hobby, interest and lifestyle, no matter how strange, weird, wacky or wonderful. Geeks are no exception, in fact, there is an entire company devoted to putting on cruises for nerdy types: InSight Cruises. Whether you are into quilting, want to explore the Bermuda Triangle first-hand, love the game of chess, or are just a Mac fanboy/girl, they probably have a cruise for you.

Nintendo World Store, New York

You don’t even have to be a geek to appreciate the amazingness of this massive temple of gaming. The Nintendo World Store, located in Manhattan’s Rockefeller Plaza, is a bright, bustling, sleek and beautiful mansion of all things video game. You can play on Wii game consoles, browse their library of games and get a chance to test out some games that aren’t even on the market yet. There is also a small exhibition of historical video game paraphernalia, including some early models of the Nintendo systems, to take you back.
